History and development of the airport

Marrakesh-Menara Airport has grown alongside the ochre city's tourism boom over the decades. Terminal 1, fully renovated in 2008, features architecture inspired by Moroccan palaces, with its geometric lattice of concrete diamond motifs and solar panels.

Successive expansions, terminal 2 in 2005 and terminal 3 in 2016, brought capacity to around 9 million passengers a year. This growth made Marrakesh-Menara Airport one of the Maghreb's major tourist hubs.

Today, Marrakesh Airport handles more than 10 million passengers a year and ranks second nationally, behind Casablanca's Mohammed V Airport. Unlike beach destinations, traffic is highest in spring, autumn and winter, when Marrakesh's climate is at its best.
